Just for this purpose Outlook provides the Recall Message feature. In Exchange recalling a message involves sending a recall request that is supposed to cause the original email to be deleted.

There are a number of conditions that have to be satisfied for the recall to be fulfilled successfully. However I will discuss these conditions in another article.

Message recalling is a topic I learned about while working on the development of a new product named WinDeveloper Message Recall. A product that is meant to greatly improve the success rate of recalled messages. However this is not what we will discuss today either. Today's article is a simple walkthrough showing you how to recall messages from various Outlook versions.

As we shall see the feature moved around from the Actions menu to the Ribbon interface, but nothing changed in terms of functionality. Assuming we sent an email that we want to take back, here are the steps to follow in Outlook and From the Info category we select: Resend or Recall Recall This Message Here we choose between deleting unread copies of the original message, or to both delete and replace the message.

If we choose the latter, the original email opens up for us to edit and resubmit. Lastly the checkbox at the bottom allows us to choose whether we want to receive notifications on the outcome of this recall attempt.
